Context
Lei for Lahaina is a fictitious event for those who want to come and kōkua (help) the families affected by the deadly August wildfire in Lahaina through a mix of lei making, prayer, mele, and good food.
Leis are often given as a symbol of love, respect, and affection. It's vital to share our aloha through lei’s and letters to help the families affected by the wildfires to get through these tough times.
Born and raised on Oahu with family in Maui, I chose to focus my benefit on raising money for families that were affected by the wildfire in Lahaina.
Over four weeks, our class planned out the details of our event, designed a corresponding logo, wire-framed and produced our website through Cargo, and created actual merchandise.

Did you know?
In ancient Hawaiian society, red and yellow were considered sacred colors associated with the gods and the royal kingdom. Red represented the god Kū, who embodied strength and warfare, while yellow represented the god Lono, associated with fertility, agriculture, and peace.
Being Native Hawaiian, the combination of red and yellow in my culture has always symbolized strength - the tone I wanted this event to convey.

THE LOGO
THE imagery
Most of the images used for the event were either photos I took myself or old pictures I found in photo albums.
I edited the images in Photoshop to highlight the love and strength symbolized by the red. I also applied a subtle glow effect to create a mature, nostalgic atmosphere.
